Tanya Mehmi is 20 years old and a designer from Coventry. She is currently studying a BA in Graphic design at Coventry University as she has passion for digital art and communicating in a visual manner.
As a creative Tanya enjoys working with typography and composition which is demonstrated across her work.
Below are some Graphic design Q&As answered by Tanya:
What are your strengths and weaknesses?
I want to say typography. I can look at a piece and pick out what type would suit the style and aesthetic of the piece. I mean I say that, and I picked not the best one for my festival poster, but that’s not my fault, we have to use google fonts, and can’t lie, they’re not the best.
As for my weakness I’d say either time management or digital work. I don’t what it is but making work digitally stresses me out. Don’t get me wrong I’m learning, just hella slowly, but I’m getting there.
What inspire me to be a graphic designer?
I don’t really know what inspires me. I mean I do but I don’t know if you’d count it as something that inspires me. But basically, I think south Asian graphic designers should get the same amount, if not more, recognition, and should be exposed more to the creative industry, just how white people do.
We as POC are constantly belittle or ignored because we “need to let the white person shine”.
What qualities and skills should a great graphic designer have?
I believe a successful designer needs to have good communication and creative skills, as you have to bring the clients idea to life.
