What do I want to do ?👨🏻💻
As a designer I enjoy working with all mediums to produce various outcomes. I have an interest in User interface design. I’ve always been a technology and ict person and seeing the evolution of the layout and visuals of software’s is very interesting.
UI is the design of layouts/interfaces for machines and software, such as computers, home appliances, mobile devices, and other electronic devices, with the focus on efficiently maximizing usability and the user experience. The requirements to pursue a career in UI design are to hold a qualification/degree in related subjects like graphic design, Product design, digital marketing, Digital media, and Web design.
In terms of how professional looking the outcome of design is, I’d say it depends on what and who the interface is designed for. A hugely successful example of interface design would be Apples’ website, it’s very interactive, sleek, and high end, which is incorporated throughout the company.
This particular part of the website in the video above is promoting the new Ipad pro. As you scroll from the website the interfaces which display the specs and hardware of the ipad zoom in and move which looks like an animation.
In the user interface industry, there are many trends and popular themes. Having unique illustrations is a must, whether their 2d or 3d. Often these illustrations are brought to life with complex motion design. This dynamism makes it easier to capture users’ attention and explain what the company or the brand has to offer at a glance.
An enjoyable illustration can give websites or mobile apps their own personality, making them more memorable. Moving elements and unexpected animations make users curious, inviting them to scroll further to see what happens next.
Another popular trend is custom interactions. To stand out, websites often implement micro animations and flashy over the top interactions. One of the trendiest interactions is when the movement of my cursor is an input, creating lively and fun results. I’ve seen examples of this on the. Apple website.
Following some research, I found a design agency that really caught my attention. Monopo London is an agency that works with all types of design projects. I found their website very engaging and successful in terms of user interface. The backgrounds on each page were implemented with micro animations that glowed and moved over the interactions.
The moving animations made me feel curious, intrigued and wanting to explore the whole website.
The interfaces on the Monopo London website are unique. The colours and consistency make it stand out. Everything flows well, the interactive features bring the website to life.
Living in Birmingham, West midlands has its perks. I’m surrounded by lots of creative cities with huge opportunities. Digbeth and the Custard factory are known for its creative studios. Using linked in jobs I found a vacancy for an Ui artist at a games design agency with over 30 years practise.
Codemasters are looking for a UI artist to design interface visual for video games. The artist must have strong graphic design and 2d skills, as well as experience in the adobe creative cloud suite.
Looking on linked in jobs I mostly found general graphic design and designer vacancies. I think I’d have to travel around the West Midlands or even outside if I wanted a job in the UI design industry.
I’m also quite indecisive so I’d consider working in other branches of graphic design like book designing, social media, editorial, advertisement or as a general graphic designer.
